Subcutaneous
A subcutaneous injection is a method of delivering medication using a syringe with a small needle into a layer of adipose (fat) tissue beneath the skin. Being less vascularized than muscle tissue, the subcutaneous tissue absorbs the product slowly over an extended period of time.
Different classes of medications can be administered subcutaneously, including anticoagulants and hormones.
Intramuscular
Intramuscular injection involves administering medication into deep muscle tissue, beneath the subcutaneous tissue, using a needle. Thanks to the significant vascularization of muscle tissue, the absorption of the drug is done quickly.
